Barred Owl Head Shot

This is a Barred Owl with a perfect background. The shot was close and with a big lens. There was a flat brown field behind the bird. The bokeh (out of focus around the main subject) worked great.

This photograph was taken in January, and I have since photographed him again (February) and published a few of those shots. This bird is from The Center For Birds Of Prey and will fly around the field and trees to demonstrate just how silent an owl in flight is.

Casual Encounter

This just didn’t look right. I have seen alligators and herons in close quarters before, but in this marsh it is different.  They ignore each other.

Given the opportunity I have no doubt the heron is dinner.

I have been to this marsh only once, the levy had been closed off right after this walk.

I will go back in the fall (too hot in the summer) and see how they are getting along. Warm weather makes alligators more alert, hungry, so I guess these casual strolls won’t be happening.

Night Shrimp Boats

Shot just after sunset with my backup camera, a Canon 70D. Both photographs had the usual ISO grain issues the 70D produces in low light, but here it helped in black and white.

Lightroom and Silver Efex was used in the processing here. I am becoming a fan of the Efex ‘film filters’ which let you select a 35mm film type display. I had always used Agfa with file and now can revisit it with the mess.
