The oldest romantic garden in the US.

Charleston is called the ‘Holy City’ due to the number of churches here. Many of them date back hundreds of years and were founded by settlers coming to town for religious freedom.
Old churches means just as many cemeteries.
Being in the city center many are small, some over grown, and a patch work of grave sites.
The photographs here were finished with an antique, almost creamtone look.
Shooting in places like this are next to impossible, so I keep doing it. The thing is, standing there you can take in the whole scene. Besides the visual you hear, smell. even touch (usually a bug).
This photograph has everything you can imagine. There is so much, and textures, and glare….
Sometimes I find the balance, most times not.
Each time I walk around one of these cemeteries I try to find a new path. However a new path always seems to lead to neat and tidy rows of square marble. I don’t stay there long.
I search out the old rust and ruin areas. They have character and tell stories.
Even small, almost out of place markers meant something once.
Old Magnolia Cemetery is filled with images like these. Every walk, even on familiar trails, is filled with photo opportunities.
