Egret, Evening Shots

A few fun shots later in the day. The light drops fast here.

This bird was looking to land in trees just beyond the rookery.

Most likely he thought the best sticks were still attached to the tree. It takes a while for them to learn you just can’t grab a small branch and fly off.

Egret Looking To Land

I noticed something the other night. Great Egrets seem to have a more difficult time landing in a larger tree. This shot is a good example.

He was very careful to pull back and get in the perfect spot before landing. I watched several circle around multiple times before even making an attempt.

The trees are starting to fill out so that may be causing the issue. The Anhinga never miss like this.

An Old Friend, Peacock

He is another sure sign of spring. No dancing the other day, but he did yell at me.

And his colors are extremely vivid now.

He also knows how to play for the camera.

The plantation opens to the tourist in another hour so this is last minute practice.

Garden By The Ashley, South Carolina

Taken at Middleton Plantation, Charleston, South Carolina.

A far corner of the formal gardens. This backs up to retaining ponds, old rice fields, and the Ashley River.

I have forgotten the details of the statue seen here. However it was one of several that were removed and buried on the property as the northern army moved towards Charleston in the US Civil War.

Little Blue At The Ibis Swamp

I guess this back swamp has now been named the ‘Ibis Swamp’ (click here). I needed some type of description, so that works.

This Little Blue Heron was moving in slow motion. Probably trying to get by without being seen.

Did he not notice that ‘big eye’ clicking at him (the camera).

Eventually he slipped behind some trees. Probably convinced he had made his great escape.
