Rare Saker Falcon

The Saker Falcon is a large falcon, larger than the lanner falcon and almost as large as a gyrfalcon at 47–55 cm (19–22 in) length with a wingspan of 105–129 cm (41–51 in).  It is also in danger of extinction.

Adults are highly sought after for the sport of falconry and illegal captures have decreased their numbers to about 8,000 world wide.

There are many breeding programs to help maintain the number of adults, and ultimately have enough to stabilize the population.

We are lucky to have done several sessions with this bird. I make it a point to always post an article about them and the danger they face.

Photographs taken at the Center For Birds Of Prey, Awendaw, South Carolina.

Sitting Pretty, Egret

I have had this photograph loaded on the web site for quite some time. The thought had been to include it with some other individual Egret shots I may get.

It didn’t happen and soon the image was buried with 100 others. I found it, I like it, so here it is.

The tree limb here has been in several other photos. It is a favorite perch, for any bird, on the large rookery island.  I’ve probably seen it so often I’m bias and that’s why it was buried.
