Gave Me The Spot, Alligator

It can be hard to quickly judge the size of an Alligator. Big head and jowls means large, but how large. Most of an Alligator is their tail. Distance between nose and eyes is just an overall guesstimate.

To add a little more confusion for me… my camera settings. After a general quick look the camera is up, in my eye. Now I am also scanning through my viewfinder, with custom settings all around the edges. I see speed, f stops, ISO, mode, shutter rate, a light meter, and a crazy blinky thing that I ignore.

This is the same Alligator that watched me shooting over his head (click to view Fun Shot) a little earlier. I walked back to shoot the scene behind him again.

It turned out he was larger than I thought and he was not going to just lay there this time.

After giving me a quick look he simple stood up taller, and rolled back into the bushes and the water.

I didn’t want to bother him, he and I were perfectly safe where he was. I pretty much ruined his nap…again an assumption.

Pelican Tried , Dolphins Kept The Fish

This Pelican was caught not being ready once this day. He looked determined if Dolphin came up the point again.

The Dolphin pushed the fish right to his spot. I give the Pelican credit because he jumped in middle of this. He didn’t get anything but really did try his best.

Speed Feed, Spoonbill

When the Spoonbills are feeding as a group they can almost run while sifting through the water.

It’s like a movie, in extra fast motion.

This bird zoomed by me in a little ‘feeding frenzy’.

Juvenile Little Blue Heron

I shot this in a corner of a marsh that was almost dry. This area is tidal and I guess the ocean was dead low.

Even though the shore is not really close our area is called the ‘Lowcountry’, at sea level. Everything around here is subject to the sea.

BTW, Little Blue Herons are actually white for the first 18 months or so. Green legs and the shape of their head and beak let us ID them.
