When I first took this shot I had assumed it was an adult with her calf. While it still might have been they are very close to each other in size.
Just a few moments later a group of Dolphin circled and chased a school of fish so I think it more likely they were starting to herd fish together.
Photographed as Spoonbills began to gather together and looked to be about ready for an exit flight. I held up the heavy lens and waited for the first flight… until I couldn’t hold it up any longer.
I think they do it on purpose.
Three photographs, not your usual poses. This Wood Stork flew in to join an existing flock.
In typical Stork fashion he picked an opening and pushed in.
This bird calmly stood around Mary’s Pond in Bear Island WMA.
There were at least another 25 Spoonbills wandering all around the area but he saw no reason to follow. Food appeared plentiful right where he was.
A true Snowy Egret attitude. Not bothered at all by the much larger Wood Storks.
This may be the first Ibis I have seen in over a month. There was only this one hanging with a group of young Little Blue Herons.
Based on the darker coloring it may have been a juvenile at the end of the early brown feather stages.
These images are all about the environment which made the shots. Mixed in with the Storks was a single Snowy Egret.
The gold glow here was from the yellowing grasses along the open waters edge.

I need to keep in mind the local reptiles. I have not photographed too many recently, both of us are keeping out of the sun. It’s August.
