These were taken while I was standing on the wooden frame of the Dike Trunk (water gate). Over 2 dozen large Alligators were feeding right below me ( 8 feet, 2.5 m) where the water flowed.
The only real issue was if an Alligator climbed up on either side of the framework. They do this, but not when people are there, but I did keep glancing at either side to be sure.
And guess what I saw…
A big one at the left side leading to the dike top. He was standing on the erosion barrier. If he came up I obviously had to leave.
He stopped climbing and began ‘chomping’, best description I have. It turns out there were big schools of little minnows on the edge. I could see the water moving, then fish jumping.
He grabbed a few mouthfuls and went back in the water.

Its neat how you can see the little fish jumping in some of the photos!
I only noticed that as I was taking the photographs. The water was ‘bubbling’ around the gator. There was no real reason for him to climb up with me so I looked around. Pretty cool I think.
Definitely 🙂
Excellent batch of photos! Thank you for sharing!
