We followed a path yesterday through the old plantation Camellia gardens. Some of the bushes are a bit tattered with weather and age, but they bloom almost all year long.
This was the only shot for me, but I lost Ellen several times as she could not just pass big red blooms.

I had only a moment to catch the small heron. He was wandering the edge of a salt marsh as the tide was rising and I only noticed him when he moved back towards the reeds.
Color here was very nice, though I think at this point I started to rush my shots. As the sun comes up over the tree line the water picks up a glare and I knew that. I’ve lost some really good images right here from ‘dinking’ around with my settings last minute.

I’m sure at some point these were planted here. This property is owned by Magnolia Plantation. The previous biologist here would have fits when out walking the grounds and finding nonnative plants.
In various, often odd, places flowers like these show up. Some are from seeds the local birds distribute, others are just there looking pretty.
A flower I had completely forgotten about. This is a late fall bloomer in the swamps here.
One of the first shots of a Heron for that morning and he shows up in a bed of Swamp Daisy.
The low sun and yellow flowers made for spectacular colors.
After these few photographs I moved on leaving him to his morning.

There was a large number of plants and the number of variations were surprising, to me.
