While we tend to refer to them as ‘Green Guys’, their official name is the Carolina Anole. They’re not always green either. This one is looking a bit ‘chunky’.
This summer they have been an easy subject to shoot, adding to that keeping the Godox IT32 flash just about glued to the camera made evening or darker place shooting simple.

The small vine, from a single seed, has grown and become part of a morning ritual. One of the first things we do is look for the flowers that have opened for the moon light.
It’s a gift that keeps giving and we have the cameras and flash ready. As soon as the dew covers the flowers they start to close. The process to open, or close, is so fast you can stand there and watch. Ellen filmed a flower opening in the early evening.
I’m starting to slow down on the number of images I’m taking. A few more collections like this to document the great summer surprise and the season should be over.

Not something I would normally do in Black and White, they are too colorful. But it’s something different. Besides the ‘side eye’ look he’s giving me worked with it too.

After the US Civil War the area in and around Charleston went from rich to poor. Since the war started here there was no love lost for the town.
And yet General James Simons (1813–1879) managed to have this huge crypt created for himself and family.
He was a politician, Confederate General, marries into the Wragg family, a cotton smuggler, and probably a few other occupations.
Below is his large mausoleum outside of Charleston.

When shooting B&W the final file is usually brought into Lightroom where the original jpg file is cropped and exported or moved to DxO Silver Efex which does all the monochrome work.
I prefer the photograph is finished in Silver Efex, if there is an industry standard that’s the software. However the OM System monochrome mode is pretty good. I have a custom version I use, the images below are the in camera jpg cropped.
To make it fun I set the camera to single shot, half shutter press focus, and mechanical shutter. You work, and think, a little different using single shot. Especially if the subject is moving.
I always use a red filter and will push my exposure comp to left a little. I think this helps me take advantage of the darker contrast settings.
