The Herons have been over shadowed by Great Egrets in the rookeries lately. The Egrets just create so much more bedlam they take over.

Herons go about their business while the others mate and fight.

Here this Heron was coming in to the nest to take over for his mate.

Soon any chicks will be just big enough for both parents to go off and hunt together. That’s when the next round of trouble begins. The small birds must defend themselves.
