While out at the Pelican rookery it was actually not all that easy getting in flight shots.
There were thousands of birds and at times you just could not get a single bird in the view finder.
This one was closer to me with the other birds a short distance behind him. At least for this moment I had a single bird alone that I could focus on.

I know, it is hard to do. I have the white pelicans in this area. I have never seen one like this. They are still gorgeous birds. There is one spot on the river that they all flock to. They fly up to the cement wall, together and dunk their heads in at the same time. There must be fish or something right at the wall. Fun to watch.
White Pelicans winter in this area, out in the marshes not the ocean. These Brown Pelicans are a little smaller and catch fish much differently. They fly up high, then crash head first down not the fish. The only Pelican to do that.
That would be so awesome to see.
