The ‘rule’ is avoid man made structures. Simple, but not until you have to think about passing on a shot. Like here.
A bird on a telephone line, for me, is not a good photograph.
However… this is an American Kestrel, Sparrow Hawk, and the most beautiful of all raptors. Also the smallest, probably the size of a Robin.
These lines run along a dirt road that cuts through the wildlife areas.
Kestrels and Kingfishers love them.
You have captured this wondderful bird beautifully, Ted.
Thanks. I skipped other shots. The wire bothers me…but not so much I didn’t take this one 🙂
Sometimes we have to run with what we got, but that sure works 🙂
A better shot….

In spite what you said this is an amazing photograph! I am glad that you took this photo. American Kestrel always fascinates me no matter where he is landed.
Thank you 🙂
How cute!
A rule may be broken, but there is nice geometry and symmetry that is pleasing to the eye. The Kestrel’s keen glance finishes it off. William
Thank you. Kestrel makes up for many short comings 😂😂
