This series was taken moments after the first Pelican fishing of the day (click here to view). We were still well in the mouth of the Stono River.

For such an awkward looking dinosaur they are acrobats in the air. Here the Pelican hovered looking down at the fish schools below.

In the next shot I’m not sure he caught anything. However in the background a Gull is trying to steal a fish from another Pelican.

Right about now everybody had competition because the first Dolphin arrived. It was hard to get a count on how many were fishing but it was a pretty good size pod. There also were calves in the group.

With all this happening around us we stayed here shooting for a while before heading off shore for Bird Key rookery.
