I had spotted a young Night Heron in a salt marsh which usually makes for nice environmental photographs. A day before I had completely botched a nice opportunity with same bird, same spot.

Watching for the the juvenile I was rushing, and suddenly caught a glimpse of the big bird on my right.

Above a Great Blue Heron, frozen like a statue, pretending I’m not there.

I was convinced the smaller heron was still around so grabbed this shot and moved on. The Night Heron was long gone, the Great Blue was too.

I think that made me 0 for 2 with the juvenile, but got a consolation prize Great Blue.
