Building a nest is not all dry sticks found on the ground. At some point there must be a need for softer, fresh ones. Here a Night Heron was on a search in the trees. Pulling and biting off sticks…again. I have seen Wood Storks almost stand on their head fighting with green twigs.
When you spot the place they fly to the images can be great fun.

I just got to watch this behavior down at the High Island Rookery – the Egrets were ripping off limbs from saplings and carrying them back to their mates.
I caught some shots of a Wood Stork spinning and hanging on saplings. Determined, but I didn’t think he did well. I need to look at the shots again, never posted.
