We always talk about the speed and agility of these birds. Maybe as interesting is how striking and colorful they are, if you can get a chance to see one slow enough.

These skimmers do have a large beak in relation to the rest, but the beak is very beautiful in color, almost like tropical birds, like parrots.

Evolution. They eat whatever they can ‘snatch’ by skimming the waters surface with their beak open. It’s truly a marvel. I plane on publishing some shots of a skim,and catch… if it stays cool today.
My Air Condition went, and waiting for a part. Of course my office is in the warmest spot. Humid Tropical heat is not good for a warm PC. Oh yeah, storms today too.

One of the best, and hardest, birds for flight shots. Spring and summer we try to find them in the marshes, I prefer to catch them ‘skimming’. However in the fall we can photo big flocks on the beaches too.
