Gentle Landing, Brown Pelican

Gentle Landing, Brown Pelican

They look prehistoric, and certainly can be clumsy on land. But in the air it’s completely different.

I watched this pelican drop down and realized he was landing on the old metal pillion from the original fort.

As he slowed down I just hoped the boat didn’t rock.

A perfect landing.

    1. 😁 thanks. It’s the only way to get anywhere near a Pelican rookery. As you can imagine, a ton of missed shots 😂. Every year we go out a few times to the different islands/sand bars with Pelicans. Timing is tricky since it must be at high tide to float near enough. Any place with sea birds is off limits for obvious reasons. We hope to have one more trip, probably in August.

  1. Amazing a bird that large can cover long enough to plant its feet on a small target that it probably has trouble seeing.
