I’m always happy to spot these mid-sized Herons. This one didn’t have all the ‘pizazz’ of breeding colors but they are still one of the most striking of wading birds.
The photograph was taken in some shallow waters near a rookery. Tricolors are generally not as shy as other Herons so we usually have a bit of time getting a few images, especially around rookery.
So majestic.
Not as tall as the Great Blue, but they do pull off the ‘regal’ attitude. We braved the heat yesterday and were lucky. Found a good number of these guys in a (mud) marsh early yesterday. The bad luck was my short sleeved swamp shirt. Blood Suckers everywhere 😵💫.
