I missed the small Heron as he flew in, I was caught flat and never even raised the camera as he blew by me. Probably best since there was little light and the shutter speed was set slow.
Whatever he found to land on, submerged branch, stick, whatever, he liked. I was able to take my time getting a good number of photos. He moved around in the same general area a bit too.
I assume he is the Little Blue who lives around the rookery full time.

Adult Little Blue Herons are very pretty, this one maybe even more so. Great deep colors, almost magenta, on his head and neck.

Indeed, the colors are absolutely stunning! What makes this bird even more special is its slightly curved beak—reminiscent of an ibis. It also looks so elegant—truly a beautiful bird!
The photos are magnificent as well. The composition is perfect, with the little island it’s perched on adding the ideal touch.
Thank you 🙏🙏. This could be another article for you, know your subject, habits, and environment. The Little Blues will land along the edge of these swamps, small branches and snags a favorite perch to sit and hunt.
As for beauty…this is the most subdued the Little Blue will be. Mating season they become a deep dazzling magenta and slate blue. One of the most beautiful birds out there, if you can photo out of the sun.
