A pair of Great Blues nesting in a rookery. The leaves have not started yet so we have a clear view in some places.

I was convinced the male was getting ready to jump any second. I was ready.

As soon as I took a step to my right looking for another opening he was in the wind.

Great Blue Herons, Cypress swamp rookery.
I hope there are still a few in the trees while we are there next week. Still looks funny to see a “dinosaur” descendent in a tree.
Well, I was 1/2 hour north of Cypress this morning and there were a few there 😄😄.
Down in Corpus Christi last week, they were just getting started at the great blue heron rookery. A few had already paired up and were sitting nests, but many males were still just displaying for mates. They will be at it for several weeks yet.
We just came back from a rookery a little while ago. We seem to have them all paired up and in construction mode. Maybe a few on eggs. Half the number of a few years ago though.
