I think building a nest must require a certain amount of fresh branches and twigs. The Herons and Egrets make a point of going up to the top of trees and fighting to pull off a live twig. It’s hard and usually it takes an enormous amount of work for a tiny twig.

Below this Great Blue got the prize. And bailed out of the tree with great enthusiasm. 😆 His legs were flailing as he jumped into the air.
