Just about landed on top of me. The feeder was in my way at the time. I had my sights set on some little green Anoles.
When I straightened up there she was.

We don’t have them here, and it is so sad, they seem like great birds to photograph.
One of the most amazing of all. Because of their wing speed and size they fly faster than you can imagine, also in any direction…backwards, straight up/down…or just float in place. The perfect flying machine.
I once met a photographer from Zambia out in a marsh. I commented it was a slow day. He just replied it was the best photo day of his life. Why…he had just discovered the Ranger station and their multiple hummer feeders. He spent hours shooting them and almost did not even get past the front station into the swamps lol.
It’s such an elegant little bird. Those big eyes in that tiny head, combined with that long bill, make it absolutely beautiful!
Faster than can be explained, and the fly backwards, or just hover in place. 😆
