I always had a ‘thing’ about photographing birds on a feeder. I just wouldn’t do it.
Then I made an exception for Hummingbirds, I mean they’re tiny rocket ships so why not.
Now it’s the smaller birds that are exempt.
I think it’s a trend.

Nothing wrong with that, Ted. Garden birds are fair game in my book. I think I need a portable bird feeder… one designed especially for kingfishers. I’ve been trying to photograph one for years, and so far the kingfishers are winning. 😄
Kingfishers took me forever too. After the first one suddenly I get a few every year. 😊
That’s the one bird sitting right at the top of my bucket list. There isn’t even a close second. I *have* to photograph one properly someday.
If I keep missing my chance, I might have to buy a kingfisher plush toy and photograph that every day instead 😂
My first Kingfisher was all luck. There was a female here that discovered it was easy feeding near a fishing pier in town. I was still living in my 2 month rental, not officially moved here yet and found the pier. I just waited until she was landing around an old wooden post in the water. I went from 0 to 100 that morning 😝
I definitely prefer off the feeders, but in the field I take whatever I can get, especially with the Hummers. I think it is less of a composition issue with me as I don’t mind as you can get some very expressfull shots (like this one), I just get to see our feeders every morning when I get up so it seems less special.
I’m teaching myself to be less picky 🤣 Another round of neck surgery, then back starts in about a week. Swamps and marshes will not be allowed 😏. The whole reason I have these issues is… I pay no attention to them. 🤣. At 78 maybe I’ll pay attention for a change.

Nice Ted. I don’t mind feeder images. It’s behavioral characteristics that do add to the bird’s demeanor.
I’m getting there. Another neck surgery will be keeping me down soon so might need to sit out by the feeders (if the sun allows).
That’s funny Ted, you will work your way up to the bigger ones. I put a bird feeder out and no one ate the seeds, then the galahs started showing up, not good. Lovely shot Ted.
