Having enough patience is so darn hard. I can hear a hummer buzzing when they’re close. They float by checking me out. And of course most times they disappear.
Since I’m photographing Anole when they stop by my shutter speed is about 1/350 maximum. For the hummers 1/2500 is still slow. Also I usually have am12-100 lens mounted. But if I don’t move one will land in front of me.
The perfect place for me to be standing is directly between our two feeders, which pushes me a little too far from both. What I’m saying is I do get shots like this, but everything has to be just about perfect.
This female was bout 7 cm / 2.5 inches long. I’m pretty sure Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world, this a young one I think. They nest behind our house and this year has been busy for them.

Boys or girls I love them all 🙂

That’s a great shot! So crisp!
Thanks. She was almost sitting on the lens lol. The OM 12-100 is a great lens, a bit short, but my 12-200 has somehow become glued to my wife’s OM-1. 😆😆. I hate to have 2 of the same lens, and we already have that with 2 OM 100-400’s. That 12-200 just fits what I need though. Maybe I should have convinced her to stay with Canon 🥹
12-200 is quite a range 😮 I thought it was usually 70-200 haha, are you Sony, I can’t remember 🙃 ah well you can’t take it off her now. 😅😂😂
The 12-200 works out to 24-400 EFOV. We shoot OM System (Olympus). Switching from Canon to the OM-1 was like going from a typewriter to a computer. We have done well with Canon for wildlife, they are work horses. The OM-1 is designed for just what we do so it’s been a good change. I’ve found once you learn all ‘the stuff’ with the kit there’s not much you can’t shoot, with a smaller bag.
The 12-200 breaks most of the usual rules, it shouldn’t be as good as it is…and Ellen seems to have mastered it. She wants me to use it later today, before I order a second one. My 12-100 is a pro lens and has a sync IS with the OM body, the 12-200 uses only in body IS. Since I’m 78 the sync might make the difference. And of course she is the logical one…so I will test first, then buy lol.
You’re definitely more technical than me with your gear haha 😂 I have a handful of lenses but am guilty to mainly using the ones. 😅 I’m a canon boy, the only upgrade I’ve ever been tempted by is Sony. 😅😅but not sure I could betray my precious canon 😂
Ha! We were Canon for decades. Like you were tempted by Sony. So… we bought a full kit. Maybe 3 lens, a flash, body (?) and gave it a go. After 6 months traded it to MPB for more Canon stuff 😂😂.
The only reason I went OM was weight and my neck injury. It’s an amazing kit, I customized a few buttons to be in Canon positions, and the menus are very Canon like.
BTW, I managed to ‘borrow’ the 12-200 yesterday. I like the extra reach, but my 12-100 is a pro lens and better for me. Ellen has mastered the 12-200 and gets much better images than me with it. So she was right (of course) I did need to try it out again.
Ohhh was Sony not that good then? I know a few togs that have traded in for it 😅😅😅 I like how you say Ellen was right (of course) 😂😂 you know how it works haha
😂🤣 I’m not new here
