Around here we have been talking about how the OM 12-100 is an incredible lens, but I would like more reach.
Of course Ellen will say take the OM 12-200 (which lives on her camera). I will obviously thank her and say no (she is much better with it than me). Ultimately I start to buy another 12-200, but the logical one in the family hands me the 12-200, and uses a completely different lens telling me to just try them both.

If you Pixel Peep the 12-200 doesn’t hold up. Look for closer shots it’s the 12-100 that misses a little. Both sets were taken within minutes of each other, both had the iT32 flash, and only Lightroom for edits. I cropped my usual amounts and did a few small things with basic sliders. I wanted to have the images as I would normally finish them.
The result; Ellen uses the 12-200, I use the 12-100, and we saved $1,000. And yes, Ellen was right. 😏
This is actually a perfect example of how our camera and lens choices come down to personal priorities.
I’ve actually thought about buying the 12-100 myself several times. However, I really like the range of the 12-200, but I’m not always happy with its sharpness, particularly at 200mm. The problem is that I simply can’t justify having both lenses. And knowing myself, I would probably miss the 12-200 too much when I left it at home.
So yes, I think this is a perfect example: there is no right or wrong choice – it’s about what matters most to each of us.
What I considered was to sell the 12-100 and get another 12-200. That would make no sense either. So I did the logical thing….🥹
