Just when I thought the day was going to give us nothing these showed up.
The Boar, while the leader here, had somehow lost control of the young ones. He wanted them to follow him into the brush. Ha, good luck. The little ones ran in circles.
He did the alpha male thing and moved between us and the herd, came foward, so we retreated. All the while the young ones did whatever they wanted.
At one point the Boar had to deal with 2 older juveniles fighting. At the same time he came back to make us retreat again. Overall he was busy.
These are Wild Boar, also called Eurasian Wild Pig, or Wild Pig. They were released on the South Carolina coast in the 1500’s by the Spanish.

Handsome animals but the large boar looks pretty fierce and was certainly earning his keep 😏
He had my attention, several times. Never charged us but trotted out and moved in front of all the others. Each time he came out front and postured we backed up.
BTW, the car was close, doors open…just in case. However, I have seen one charge and they can fly. Just a little risky, not to bad.
Hmm…I think I’d give them a wide berth.
