So, I looked down at the canal running by a salt marsh. The tide was low.
Standing there, completely dumbfounded, was a baby Black-crowned Night Heron. Likely in his first ever solo walk about.
And he found me…

Big wide eyes, and little legs flailing fast. He ran back to the reeds, at a high speed.
This is the smallest Night Heron I’ve seen, more were out so I expect several nests have fledged here.

Thank you. I caught another nearby, same canal. At low tide it’s mud and glare. If I work right some shots are good, but nature usually wins. Still it’s better than working in a studio…except for the bugs.
