The first photograph shows a nice approach to landing, the end is somewhat different.

You can see from above the bird was close to shore, the water probably not very deep.

Now for a Pelican this is a perfect landing.

Caught this image just about right.

And then…

Head first, right in the surf.

Brown Pelicans are one of only two world wide that fish by diving down from up high. They need to be very good at it, because it can hurt at their speeds.

I guess this young bird was still learning how to dive. Practice, practice, practice !!
