The Brown Pelican is one of three pelican species found in the Americas and one of two that feed by diving in water, head first from great heights.

In South Carolina the Brown Pelican is a year round resident and breeds in large colonies…like this one.

This was a loud and raucous place. I have started calling it ‘the beach’ after our description of the public beaches in NYC. Both have many of the same characteristics.

Both have kids of all ages. Some even look alike.

There is minimal room with everybody getting in ‘each others face’.

One big difference though. here to leave they jump up and fly, we took a city bus.

Other than that though pretty close to the same.
