A photograph taken in a large wildlife area. A Heron had been feeding on the bank but suddenly jumped up and made off in a hurry. No reason I could see.
Mid morning sun lit up everything and actually gave the water a nice clean look.
This is an old rice field from a long gone plantation. It’s impressive how large and open some old fields, now almost lakes, can be. A series of water ‘trunks’ still control the flow.
The marsh has closed all around them now and they are a perfect natural habitat for wildlife. There are hundreds of thousands of acres like this in the Lowcountry.
Tropical birds make their way here as do the northern ones escaping the cold.
