In the past I’ve made mention of how the Skimmer is a master at surface fishing. These photographs display just how perfect their beak has evolved to fit their environment.

The image above clearly displays the Skimmers bill.
Skimmers feed by opening the bill and dropping the long, narrow lower mandible into the water, skimming along until they feel a fish.


We have been lucky and photographed the Skimmers in action a few times this summer. I thought the above gave a good view of the birds unique bill.
