A Flash Of Green, Heron

A Flash Of Green, Heron

I’m not even sure I knew what this was when I grabbed the shots.

A fast bird going by, and I pointed and pressed the shutter…a bunch.

Having missed thousands of opportunities like this I now (try) to remember to have my camera / lens focused and active at about half length all the time.

Just have a lens pointed away and press the back button to focus on anything while standing around. A subject is not important, I am keeping the camera focused and the lens working. If I lift up suddenly to shoot the work is half done already. The lens has no need to hunt and seek when I get something in the view finder. It’s almost focused already.

The real trick is remembering to do it. Extra batteries are a good idea too.

  1. Beautiful in flight! A few days ago I tried to capture a Great Blue heron in flight and I thought I did well but sadly a heron was blur.
Ted, you are so masterful taking the photos like this one.
