Night Herons are notorious for being shy. When I get a ‘laid back’ bird like this I can still rush my shots. Who knows how long it will be there.
I didn’t go too fast on these since I already had shot several others over a few days. I was not my own worst enemy this time.
I have never seen one.
You may have seen a juvenile at some time. They look very different. This is a breeding age adult Yellow-crowned Night Heron.
It looks so tropical.
Well, it is. Florida begins the tropics. South Carolina is considered the sub-tropical region. Me, just coming from New England, it’s so different since the US is so big.
It occurs to me, are you not on the sub-tropical border line ?
