Pelicans typically swim slowly scooping up whatever they find in their path. They have a ‘horn’ on the tip of their bill which is used to catch, or dig, for prey. Only the Brown Pelican dive from heights to fish.
The bird above was busy feeding and went right past me, paying no attention to me.
While I have watched White Pelican feed it was never a close up since you should never disrupt their fishing. This Pelican chose to move directly past me.
The marsh was almost empty and there was competition for food so I guess I was the least of his problems.
A good opportunity I may not have again.
