This is a juvenile White Ibis. Still brown, but the white is slowly taking over.

A guess here is that this bird will not be breeding until spring next year (2021).


These photographs were taken at a wildlife management area where water had been lowered in old rice fields.

It’s funny. The dark wading birds start out white, and the white just the opposite. LOL
The first time I saw a juvenile white ibis with brown all over it was in the Okefenokee swamp. The Ranger giving the boat tour saw that I was looking at it with a confused look, and pointed out it was a juvenile. They can be confusing when called “white” but look brown! Or called “blue”, like the Little Blue Heron juvenile, but are white!
