Wandering Sanderling

Wandering Sanderling

The name derives from Old English sand-yrðling, “sand-ploughman”.

I didn’t know that but it does make sense. These little guys scurry along the surf, then stop and tap their foot.

Small worms move under the sand from the vibrations, the Sanderling quickly grab them, and charge ahead to catch the others.
