I think these photographs show a Spoonbill at his (hers) most ‘interesting’ phase.
Everybody loves Spoonbills, after all it’s a big pink bird. But when it’s breeding time, the adults have some type of switch that’s like an explosion in a child’s toy chest.
Look at these colors. Way too much, over the top and they even clash with each other.
Now, what about the rest… they certainly are different.
Yes, we love Spoonbills. But I think I prefer them before, or after, mating season.
I love the vivid colors including the orange back-end feathers☺️. You are so fortunate to have breeding Spoonbills in your area. We see them often here but I believe they nest further south along the Florida coast than where we are.
These were taken in Florida. 😀. I think these were from Stick Marsh. Spoonbills are now breeding here, but in remote spots. The juveniles are always here now.
Lol!! I’ve got to check out Stick Marsh☺️! We were just talking about going up to Vieira Wetlands, a little north of there, this week. As many spoonbills as I’ve seen here and South Palm Beach County, I’ve never seen one carry a stick 😅
Stick Marsh was only open on Tuesdays, it’s owned by the water company. Also !!!!! Four wheel drive or old car. I have been on roads in many places in the world…this one can be interesting.
Wow, thanks for the advice and the warning. I’ve heard of it and it’s near some of our other favorite spots, but we’ve never actually gone there.
P.S. Thanks for the tip
