A duck that is more common than I thought. The southern coastal area must be part of their expanding range. They breed in the central US.
There are no gaudy colors, even during breeding time. I have seen both male and female but unless they are right next to each other I can’t tell them apart.
There were two types of Gadwall, this being the Common Gadwall. The other lived in coral atolls in the pacific and went extinct in 1874.
I typically find them mixed in with Teals and other ducks.
