A pair of Yellow-crowns have done a masterful job of building their nest.
The nest itself is inside a large ball of Spanish Moss. They may have added even more. Even knowing exactly where it is doesn’t mean you can find it easily.
The tree itself leans out over a pond making it safe from most predators.
If you wait long enough one of the adults will step out into an open spot to stretch their legs. I don’t remember them nesting here before but this year several have moved into the pond area.
Yellow-crowns will nest in unexpected places so maybe this could be the start of a new rookery.
