I just love how this Tricolored Heron made a diving catch, and that I actually caught it.
The bird was sitting on a stump watching the water for any signs of fish. Suddenly he spotted something further away than I would have thought was catchable.
A strong dive and he was off…

He turned and flew after the last shot. This Heron pulled off the perfect quick grab.

Thanks 😃. I almost didn’t see it. I was shooting an island filled with Wood Storks so my attention was not on him at all. Both Tricolored and Snowy’s were using the same technique in this pond. Not a method I see very often, but these guys repeated it multiple times.
