Certainly not somethin you see everyday. With all the young birds it could be called a Pelican daycare.

The quality was a little better here than the early shots.

The tide pushed us back to calmer water and by now my shutter speed was pretty high. I was able to get the Pelicans and Gulls in flight.

For all the shots of the day we stayed on the calmer side of the key. The ocean side was probably a roller coaster with this tide.

Pelican rookeries this size are very rare, maybe 3 – 4 on the east coast.

A group is rebuilding an older rookery just a few miles up the coast. That too was busy but back to back hurricanes destroyed it.

If you have read the articles here about the Pelicans and the shrimp boats the old rookery can be seen behind the boats coming back to the piers. As Charleston Harbor is dredged the sand is being used to build up ‘Crab Bank’ rookery.

Days like this are what we call going on an ‘adventure’.

    1. Thank you 😃😃. It’s an amazing scene. When we are out and find a mass of birds it’s really impossible to describe, or really photograph. However the term ‘Do A Happy Dance’ comes to mind 😂😂😂
