Touch Down, White Pelican

Touch Down, White Pelican

Today must be ‘Pelican Day’. Everything published has been of the big white birds.

And so…

I caught this guy making a sliding landing.

At the end he did add a little flair, did a spin to turn and face me.

The whole thing looked a lot like water skiing.

  1. Your pelicans always look huge, Ted. It is no wonder that they have trouble stopping on a dime. I like the idea of a waterskiing pelican, which really is what the first photo looks like.

    1. They like space for take off and landing LOL. Huge is the right word too. It’s actually the tallest bird in North America, wing span second only to the Condor, and weights around 20 pounds.

When a flock lands, or fly’s in low, you pay attention LOL.

They spend the winter in the bigger marshes. Great to photo of course 😂
