The American Avocet is one of two members of the ‘Stilt’ family that we have in the Lowcountry, Black-necked Stilt is the other, which I have recently published (and will again).
Avocets are a winter/spring visitor here and breed in the interior of the US. I found a small group, with Black-necks the other day. I had thought Avocets would have been gone by now.
Nice find!
Not sure where they went, now it’s time for them to leave. I seem to have missed most of them. Thanks.
I guess look for them in the same location next year?
