Little Blues are among the last of the wading birds to nest each year. They don’t usually start until May. Consider the much bigger Great Blues, they can begin in January. It’s a long mating season here.

This bird was in a small rookery near the Georgia border. As usual the nesting was on a small island keeping them safe with some water.

The brush is thick, exactly what these birds like. That means get the shot before they get close. The disappear inside like a magician if you hesitate.
