The ‘Chicken’ of the marshes. Loud and everywhere. And that red beak !!!!
Their feet are designed to allow them to run across large leaf swamp and marsh vegetation. And it works.
This bird came out of the vegetation on what could have been a small gator trail.
None of the usual screaming dramatics, it looked around and slipped back into the island.
These birds were originally called the Moor Hen.
Oh, another important fact. The Gallinule has the butt ugliest chicks in the entire animal kingdom.

I was loving those big feet and candy-corn beak, and then you mentioned one final important fact……thank goodness I wasn’t drinking anything, I would have sprayed my laptop! 🤣🤣
And it’s so true. Yet today something popped up on FB remarking how cute their chicks were. I wanted to scream NO !!
