Common little water fowl that are not ducks, but can swim just as well without web feet. Their long toes have many round protrusions that work they same way.

When I see them it’s always are at a distance. So when I found large flocks close up during our last trip to Florida I took my time and captured as many as possible.
Yes, unfortunately, coots are always far away. Ted, you were lucky to see and photograph them so close. By the way, if I had the chance I would stay with them as long as you. Great image!!!
