We had a lot of rain yesterday through last night (12/17/2023). Now parts of the swamps are very full.
Apparently they are full of Crawdaddies too.
Below the Heron was holding his catch and not moving a muscle. Not wanting to draw attention in case something wanted to steal it.

Today just about everywhere we went some type of bird was catching Crayfish. I don’t know anything about their life cycle but I think there are plenty around right now.
BTW, this is a nice example of a southern swamp. There are big Cypress trees, Spanish Moss, and of course the heron hunting.
Cherishing the moment of a well earned meal.
I’m doing some research on Crayfish to better understand them. The swamps are filled with them right now.
