Part of the Great Blue Heron mating habits is a ritual of ‘passing the stick’.

Like most bigger wading birds they have a stylized courting dance/calling but the stick is also important. At some point the female can stop accepting a stick, even toss it away.

After the building starts a ‘stick toss’ takes a new meaning. Pretty much the male needs to get better materials. LOL
