ACE Basin Marsh Scenes May 2024

We started out that morning with heavy persistent fog about ten miles down the road. When the fog finally did lift we decided to move down towards Donnelley WMA which has woodlands as well as big marshes. High water too.

Below was shot from a dike that separates two large marshes and is very long. At least a mile with some nice views over the area.

The first view is looking off to the left side dike and dirt access road. Towards the tree line I can see Ellen off on her own again.

Both above and below are taken from the same dike. The first shot above looks to my left, the one below looks to my right. These are a pretty good perspective on how large just this one dike is. Behind both tree lines are more dikes and marshes. At times the top of these dikes will have more than a few sleeping gators in the middle. Now I think the high water has caused many to move off to the higher ground.

The last photograph (best viewed large) was taken looking over at a closer dike, and down the cut. I could see Ellen doing the same as me, just checking things out. Between us are two alligators swimming over to the waters edge.

With the water still so high here there was not much wildlife activity. It was a nice walk and from here we headed back out and home.
