This flight shot was taken behind the Cypress Wetlands rookery, Port Royal SC. I had never walked back there, it turned out to be a busy spot. Many of the rookery birds were resting in the area.

Shooting around here can be tricky, with a good number of images either over exposed or complete blown out. The rookery area was destroyed in a hurricane a few years back. Port Royal is near the Port Royal Sound, Hilton Head, and the ocean. Prime storm territory.

The town here rebuilt the rookery completely. A gamble since birds usually move on. It turns out except for the first year it has more wildlife now than before. Since the trees and swamp area is new growth the bright South Carolina sun can still be harsh.

Port Royal is on the southern end of South Carolina, still part of the ACE Basin area, and maybe closer to Savannah Georgia than Charleston.
